A nature walk in the Hobbister area

Lucy Mortlock ( RSPB Assistant Warden) and Stuart Little (St Magnus Way Trustee) will be leading a walk over part of the St Magnus Way as it crosses Hobbister. Lucy will guide on the Flora and Fauna as well as peat restoration and Stuart will have some thoughts and reflections on the St Magnus Way and its theme for that section - Hospitality.

The walk will be on Saturday 18th May 2024.

Lucy will be delighted to talk about the variety of habitats, birds and plants that call Hobbister home, and answer questions about the site. We will look out for hunting Hen Harriers, silent Short-eared Owls and burbling Curlew, and turn our eyes to the ground for cottongrass, asphodel and maybe a sundew or two!

The site is a mixture of seacliffs and moorland, and the ground can be quite uneven underfoot. Please wear strong walking shoes and bring your waterproofs in case of showers. Please bring drinks and snacks as there are no catering facilities nearby. There are no toilets at the site, with the nearest public facilities being at Walkmill Bay.

Meet at the RSPB Hobbister Car Park at 10am and the walk will finish around 12 noon.

The maximum size of group will be up to 15. Adults and accompanied children are welcome, but no dogs please.

If you would like to come along, send an email with your details to [email protected].

Hope to see you there.
