Get your walking boots ready for the Autumn Walks

While most walkers enjoy the St Magnus Way during the summer it is possible and even enjoyable to walk it at any time of the year. It just takes the right clothing. The different seasons bring changes in the flora and fauna along the paths and every day changes in the clouds, sea and landscapes bring variations in the atmosphere as folk walk and contemplate. As we are now into Autumn the St Magnus Way has planned a series of walks over the coming weeks on the various sections of the St Magnus Way.

  • Egilsay: Saturday, Sept 7th.
  • Gurness to Birsay: Sunday, Sept 15th.
  • Birsay to Dounby: Saturday, Sept 21st.
  • Dounby to Finstown: Sunday, Sept 29th.
  • Finstown to Orphir: Saturday, Oct 5th.
  • Orphir to Kirkwall: Sunday, Oct 13th.

To book a place, or ask any questions please email Stuart at [email protected] or check out the St Magnus Way Facebook pages and stmagnusway.com

For all the walks people need to be reasonably able walkers. They should bring waterproof and warm clothing including waterproof trousers or gaiters for walking through wet vegetation. Brightly coloured or high-vis clothing is advisable since all sections have some road walking. They also need snacks, at least 1 litre of water, sensible walking shoes or boots they have walked long distances in before, a mobile phone with charge in it, and someone to pick them up from the end of the route if they are not leaving a car there.

All ages welcome, dogs must be on a short lead at all times. As these walks will be at the end of Summer and approaching Autumn, they may be subject to changes due to weather. Have a quick look at the 'Advice for Pilgrims' tab on the website.
